Silicone is not a material that is suitable for injection molding, although the molding process is similar. It is also possible to combine silicone with thermoplastics (usually PA).
Why choose it?
- Compared to thermoplastics, it has superior thermal and chemical resistance
- Can be used to produce products that require high transparency: silicone streetlight lenses are a great example
Why not choose it?
- Can not be injection molded
Typical applications:
- Oven mittens
- Teething toys
- Kitchen utensils
- Medical devices (easy to sterilize)
